Weight-Loss Surgery Seminars with Dr. Andrew M. Dewitt
Attending a free informational seminar with Dr. Andrew M. Dewitt is the first step for anybody considering weight-loss surgery at our office. All patients are required to attend this seminar before having a private consultation with Dr. Dewitt. During the seminar, two packets will be handed out to prospective weight-loss surgery patients. One packet is from our bariatric coordinator and contains information on food, nutrition, and physical therapy. The other packet is from Dr. Dewitt and contains important paperwork that must be filled out before your initial consultation.
Your Initial Consultation
After you have attended one of our informational seminars, you may visit Dr. Dewitt at our office for your initial consultation. Before you visit our office, however, you should contact your insurance company or human resources department to make sure your insurance policy does not specifically exclude the surgical treatment of obesity. Even if your insurance does cover weight-loss surgery, our initial consultation fee of $175 is often not included. This fee is due at the time of the first visit. The initial consultation fee for patients with MediCare is $35.
What to Bring to Your Initial Consult
The following items should be brought to our office at the time of your initial consult:
- Initial consult fee of $175, if not covered by insurance ($35 for MediCare patients)
- Completed new patient packet received at weight-loss surgery seminar
- Records from primary care physicians related to weight history
- Any recent results from EKG, Echo, or stress tests, or any related tests (these may also be performed by Dr. Dewitt)
