Restrictive Weight-Loss Surgery

A restrictive weight-loss procedure — such as LAP-BAND® System bariatric surgery and laparoscopic gastric sleeve resection — lessens a patient’s caloric intake by reducing the size of the stomach. This actually restricts the amount of food that can be eaten and makes patients feel full sooner than they would have before their surgery.

Combination Restrictive/Malabsorptive Weight-Loss Surgery

A combination restrictive/malabsorptive bariatric surgical procedure provides excellent weight-loss results in two ways. The restrictive portion of the procedure reduces the size of the stomach, limiting the amount of food patients can eat before they become full. During the malabsorptive portion, the digestive track is redirected to bypass part of the lower intestine, where most of the calories from food are absorbed by the body.

LAP-BAND® System Weight-Loss Surgery

LAP-BAND® System weight-loss surgery is a minimally invasive technique practiced by Dr. Andrew M. Dewitt. The procedure can be performed laparoscopically through a series of very small holes in the abdomen. A tiny camera and delicate surgical devices are inserted through the holes, allowing Dr. Dewitt to perform the procedure without making the large incisions that can cause noticeable scars. During LAP-BAND® System surgery, a band is placed and tightened around the top portion of the stomach, creating a smaller stomach pouch and causing patients to eat much less before they feel full.
